Continuing the long-standing partnership with RMIT, Capabuild was approached during the feasibility stage to assist in an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) capacity providing advice on programme, buildability, and design coordination.

Capitalising on the location on this prominent CBD corner, RMIT’s vision was to create a space modelled on the “Apple Store” concept to facilitate the recruitment of international students while showcasing the many opportunities within the University via the high-end audio-visual package.

Sensitive to the Heritage and historical significance of the building and its facade, the scope focussed on an extensive internal refurbishment.

The structural propping of the facade, removal of part of the Level 1 floor and creation of a double height void space at the entry was the focus of the early weeks of the construction. Once completed, the surrounding works took place.

Given the tight timeframe for this project, collaboration of the project and consultant team were critical to the success of the project with many decisions made on site to keep the project moving.

With a hard “opening day” locked in, the Capabuild team had no option other than to meet the deadline and worked around the clock in the concluding stages to successfully complete the project by the deadline.

I wanted to say a personal thank you to the team at Capabuild who helped deliver this project.
You guys were always very professional and kept a cool head when you could have easily thrown the towel in and given up.
